Lynden Pioneer Museum

Exhibits

The Lynden Pioneer Museum is known internationally for its thoughtful exhibits. It features a life-size replica of Lynden's Historic downtown, a full size farmhouse circa 1900 and more than 60 vintage buggies, cars and tractors that tell the story of getting around in the industrial age.

It's an experience you'll never forget!

Cruise through the Good Old Days in the history of the automobile!

The automobile - one of the ten greatest inventions of the last hundred years. The automobile has perhaps had a broader impact on American Society than the invention of the TV. Every year, the museum sponsors a new exhibit exploring this wide ranging impact.

Heritage Hall Front Street

Visit the life-size re-creation of historic downtown Lynden, Washington. Shown here is the Lynden Department Store, one of 20 replica buildings and shops in the Heritage Hall.

This space is also used for programs and may be rented for private events.

Buggy Collection

A Victoria Cab, also known as a Vis-à-Vis, was a favorite carriage style of the ladies in the late 1800s. It was named after Queen Victoria, who used one as a personal carriage during her term of office. They are still used by English royalty. The carriage at left served the Polinder family for three generations of family weddings.

See forty-six classic examples of horse-drawn vehicles from all over the world. It is the largest publicly displayed collection west of the Mississippi.

All but two are from the original Fred Polinder Collection, the first exhibit in the museum when it opened in 1976.

Agricultural Exhibits

Dense forests covered all of the area around Lynden when the pioneers arrived. Logging, as an industry, gradually gave way to agriculture. The farm yard displays many tools that were used 75-100 years ago to clear and drain land and take care of the farm and family.

"Bountiful Harvest," a new permanent exhibit features a life-size milking parlor, barn front and hen house. Learn how to milk a cow and use an outhouse.

Agricultural Implements Gallery

See a Thresher and a Steam Tractor from just after the turn of the century. Also discover the development of agricultural implements from early horse drawn through a unique collection of walking tractors to the big machines of the tractor power era of farming.
